Three Factors Affecting Health
Health is a state of a person which may turn out to be good or bad. Good health means the individual is physically and mentally well-balanced and is enjoying having no illnesses or diseases. Good health may be measured by the ability of the person to cope with stress and other challenges which come his way. These challenges may be in the form of problems or sickness. Good health does not necessarily mean only the physical health of the individual but also the emotional and mental health. Health may be influenced by the physical biology of a person, the lifestyle that he leads and the environment in which he revolves in. So what does a person have to take into consideration to achieve a good health?
Exercise is one of the common factors which individuals need to maintain good health. Exercise is not just for the obese or overweight person, but it also helps to build resistance and endurance in people. Some examples of good exercise are stretching, resistance training and aerobic exercise. These three forms of exercise can help an individual attain good physical health. They help build and tone muscles and also make the cardiac muscles stronger and more capable of enduring rapid heart rate.
Nutrition is a key factor to good health. A healthy diet contributes to less sickness and illness and to a more resistant immune system. A person nowadays is well aware of what kinds of food and beverages that are good for their health. A person's preference for eating the unhealthy food does not necessarily mean that he will be unhealthy. The person must be able to manage himself and control the intake of unwanted but delicious food in order to maintain good health. This control and good management of food intake contributes to better psychological health as well. A good grasp of what is good to eat and what should be kept at a minimum shows better self-control and the knowledge that you, as a person, want to be healthy.
Lifestyle can also affect a person's good health or the lack of it. People who sleep late or lack the requisite seven- to eight-hours sleep may be risking their health. Some individuals tend to go out after work or school not realizing that their body and their mind need to rest at some point. This is not to say that staying up late is bad, but it should be done in moderation and should not be done straight for several days. This kind of behavior is taxing on the body organs, which need to rest, and the only time they can rest is when the person is asleep.
Smoking and excessive drinking can also affect our body and our brain's capacity to function well. Smoking also contributes to sickness and diseases, which come out later in our lives. It also affects the lives of other people around us who inhale the smoke from the cigarette and that which we expel. This is called secondhand smoke and several cancers have been linked to this. Too much alcohol can impair the brain functions and lead to unwise decisions. Many accidents have been caused by driving while drunk. Prohibited drugs are also one factor to bad health. These drugs can impair organ function and impair decision making.
