Having Reference

In an etymological sense, reference has a root word. This root word is refer. Refer means that you are submitting to other ideas or people in order to have information and corroboration. For example, I will say that there is gravity in this world that makes us stay in the earth's surface. To prove what I am saying is true and correct, I will REFER to the works of Newton in the law of gravitational pull (which is proven true already).

In this case, reference means the actuality of the word refer. Reference is something that is referred to. It also serves the link between two ideas, which can prove that what they are saying both is true and correct.

The Uses
There are many uses of reference in this world. In the academic community, reference is very important in any paper written. It substantiates the paper written. It also provides further reading to make a topic clearer. It can also be an evidence of authenticity and truth, which can make your work very credible.

Man does not have the monopoly of knowledge. Even though he knows something, he may not know something. This limitation of man is filled by references. With references, you can know something that you do not know. You may refer to books that can supply you knowledge that you do not know. You can also make a dictionary a reference if you want to know the meaning of a certain word. Reference is a great help in supplying knowledge that we do not possess.

Art awakens the inner beauty of our soul. Without it, we cannot express our emotions to others, so an artist must be good in this field. However, he cannot be good by mere personal skills. He must refer to great artists in order to know how to make an exemplary work of art. Thus, reference to great artist is very essential if you are to make good works of art.
Reference is a great help in our society. It does not only provide us proper information and knowledge about something, but it also makes our present works better. We tend to refer something for their knowledge. With reference, we can improve those things in the future.
