Sanjay Gupta is planning a multi-starrer next

Here’s a quick clarification about Sanjay Gupta’s next film. A section of the media has reported that the maverick film-maker is planning to remake a Spanish film, which is expected to star the Deol brothers - Sunny and Bobby - in principal roles. The news is partly true, partly false.

Partly true: Gupta is remaking a Spanish film. But the other part of the news - the casting - is completely wrong. The fact is that it’s a four-hero project and Gupta hasn’t signed anyone as yet. “I haven’t signed Sunny or Bobby. We are still scripting,” he sets the record straight. The truth is, Gupta will start the film early next year, after the Meghna Gulzar film, produced by him, is complete.

As far as the casting of Gupta’s film is concerned, there’re whispers that he is planning to cast Anil Kapoor, Abhishek Bachchan, John Abraham and Arjun Rampal in principal roles. Awaiting the official confirmation from Gupta.

Shahid Kapoor & Priyanka Chopra in ‘Ishq Vishk 2′?

The trend of making sequels has caught on in a big way. In fact, the moment a film hits the bull’s eye, most producers immediately jump at the idea of making a sequel to the film. The announcement of a sequel creates tremendous excitement within and outside the film industry and gradually, the film becomes a brand.

The latest news doing the rounds is that producer Ramesh Taurani is planning to make a sequel to ISHQ VISHK. Rumours are rife that Ratna Sinha will direct the film, which is expected to star Shahid Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra in the lead. However, Ramesh Taurani denies the development completely, “It’s untrue. We don’t have a story for a sequel, so how can we announce the film in the first place?” But he confirms that Ratna Sinha did narrate a subject to him. “But it was for an altogether different film. Beyond that we haven’t had any discussions,” Taurani adds.

Meanwhile, Taurani is gearing up to start RACE 2, directed by Abbas-Mustan. This film is likely to take off early next year.

Ghai reached settlement with 20th Century Fox to clear release of Hello Darling

Bollywood films being inspired by Hollywood movies is a phenomenon as old as the hills. However, in the recent past, more and more filmmakers are going the right way and procuring legal rights to remake rather than blatantly plagiarising Hollywood films.

Mukta Arts’ production Hello Darling which released last Friday also found itself in a soup few days prior to its release when 20th Century Fox claimed that the film is a copy of the 1980’s Hollywood film Nine to Five (9 to 5). Both the films apparently deal with 3 working women out to teach their perverted, sex-starved boss a lesson. 20th Century Fox would have stopped the release of Hello Darling; however a timely intervention and an out of court settlement by Subhash Ghai helped the film release on its scheduled date.

When we contacted Mr. Subhash Ghai, he didn’t deny the news, “Yes we’ve had a settlement with 20th Century Fox. When our team of writers started writing Hello Darling there was no deliberate intention to take references from any particular film. However, when I saw the first cut of the film last month, I did notice that it was similar to some extent to the 1980’s Hollywood film Nine to Five. That’s when I spoke to the people at 20th Century Fox. Since the film was nearing release, there was no question of acquiring rights at that point of time. However, we mutually decided to arrive at a settlement so that the release is not affected. They were kind enough and as scheduled our film released on the said date i.e. Aug 27.”

Bipasha to shoot her fitness video in Goa

Bipasha Basu

Bipasha will be spending a lot of time in Goa in the coming weeks. First she will shoot her fitness video on the beaches quickly before winter sets in. Then she is all set to shoot a re-mix of the song ‘Dum Maro Dum’ for Rohan Sippy’s film of the same title.
In Rohan Sippy’s film, Bipasha Basu is all set to swing to the sound of the R D Burman track ‘Dum Maro Dum’. The copyright issues with Dev Anand and his film Hare Rama Hare Krishna have apparently been sorted out. Pritam Chakraborty is all set to record a new version of the Asha Bhosle classic.
Says Bipasha, “I can’t talk about it right now. But when it happens it will happen. Give it another two weeks.”
She has another issue-based film Aakrosh coming up after Lamhaa. And Bipasha wonders how the audience would react to it. “The social issue, honour killings, is treated like a thriller. Even Lamhaa was treated like a thriller. But how many people went to see it?”
Bipasha plays a schoolteacher in a tradition-bound village in Aakrosh. “For me the interesting part of doing Aakrosh was to see how far away I can get away from my glamorous image. I discovered it was easy for me to do real characters. The director, Priyadarshan, is a delight to work with. And my co-star is Ajay Devgn who is a good dependable actor. I’ve another film Mr. Fraud with Ajay directed by Abbas-Mustan which got stuck. I don’t know if that will ever release.”
Bipasha has a message for her colleagues who are keen to lend their names to issue-based films. “Don’t charge any money for working in such films. It’s the only way to make issue-based films commercially viable.”
Says the actress, “After Lamhaa, I am tempted to tell a committed filmmaker like Rahul Dholakia to make out-and-out commercial films. Or if you make a film on a social issue then make sure it doesn’t go over-budget. The audience doesn’t care about what’s happening in the real world. It’s shameful that Lamhaa was so costly. If it was made for Rs. 4 crores it would have been a hit. When a mainstream actor does a film on a social cause it should be done free of cost as a sign of commitment to society.”
Bipasha is all set to go to Goa well in advance of her earlier plan to shoot her video. “I want it to be shot outdoors in Goa. Winter gets too crowded. And I’ve a film to shoot in September. So I’ve to rush the video. I am going crazy doing my calorie counts. This time I’ve no team. I am doing everything on my own. It’s a little boring to do it by myself. But I’ve always been a loner.”
And yes, all is well between Bipasha and John. Says Bipasha confidently, “If God forbid, anything were to go wrong between me and John, he would be the loser not me.”
John Abraham may go right ahead and insure his body parts. Bipasha isn’t doing any such thing. Bipasha can’t see the sense of John insuring his butt.
She says, “I’m a body person and I am definitely into fitness. But I’d never insure any body part. He’s welcome to do what he likes. I just want to know which insurance company is insuring his butt.”

Big B harassed by follower on his blog; files complaint

Amitabh Bachchan was probably the first most sincere celebrity blogger in Bollywood who used the platform to connect with his fans and update them on his activities, thoughts and interact with them regularly. No wonder then that he had innumerable followers who would start their day with reading what the revered Big B had to say.

But apparently there was one errant follower who used the ability to comment on the blog to vent out his negativity. He would leave derogatory remarks that would cross the line of decency and were abusive. Big B mentions in his blog, “There is a serious effort by a member that writes and comments on this blog to use language and expression that is abusive, filthy and utterly disgusting.” The unrelenting person would even send messages that were downright vulgar on Big B’s phone and provoked the star to take corrective measures.

Amitabh Bachchan reported the matter to the authorities and now any attempt from this miscreant would come under legal cyber space action.

Housefull on television without ‘Apni Toh Jaise Taise’ song?

Well, that’s the question that everybody seems to be asking about the Sajid Khan’s hit film Housefull that’s all set to have its worldwide television premiere on August 29, 2010. When the film was released in theatres earlier this year, it had the remix version of the yesteryear’s famous track ‘Apni Toh Jaise Taise’ (from the late Prakash Mehra’s hit film Laawaris), which later on became the reason for a controversy that’s dodging the film till today.

Prakash Mehra’s son, Puneet Mehra, objected to the usage of the song in Housefull saying the producers had not taken rights for the same. While the makers of the film claimed that they had purchased the song rights from the music label Sa Re Ga Ma. The issue was however settled and the film released in theatres with the song.

Coming to the television premiere of the film, Puneet again moved to court objecting on the usage of the song in TV premiere of the film. A High Court ruling was passed in Kolkata yesterday stating that Housefull cannot be aired on television if the song in question is not deleted from the film. Eros reportedly has decided to go ahead with the telecast of the film without the song. However, official confirmation of the same is awaited.

If that wasn’t enough, Aamir continues to be a red-hot property even in the ad world, in terms of brand endorsements too. After the Etisalat deal, Aamir has apparently, been signed up as the brand ambassador of the ‘yet-to-be-launched’ two wheelers from the Mahindra stable.

Saif to launch Agent Vinod Play Station game next year

Whenever one gets to hear of Saif Ali Khan, the terms that get associated with him are talent, style, poise and lots of élan. Here on, add one more term, and that’s ‘acute business acumen’. Testimonial to this is the fact that he is now all set to launch an ‘Agent Vinod’ game, for his upcoming film which goes with the same name. It’s a game that will have the user become ‘Agent Vinod’ and go looking for the clues in the country, interacting with many characters, including that of Kareena’s as well.

For this game, Saif has tied up Sangam Gupta of Trine Animation and Gaming Studio. Readers may note that this is one of the very few companies that create Xbox and PlayStation games. Saif has planned to start the pre-release promotions of this film in April next year, with the PlayStation game and a comic book. Talking about the two concepts of promoting the film, Saif said that the idea was to come up with a different medium of expression that will appeal to kids as well as adults.

For the uninitiated, Agent Vinod stars Saif in the lead, with his real-life lady love Kareena Kapoor. The film is directed by Sriram Raghavan.
