Big B to star in Raj Kumar Santoshi’s The Outsider

He is by far the most revered Bollywood personality and almost adored as a demi-god, he is none other than ‘Superstar of the Millennium’ Amitabh Bachchan. The only star to constantly make the headlines for almost anything he does is in the lime light once again this time for his next film.

Big B has reportedly signed a film titled The Outsider with director Raj Kumar Santoshi, being produced under the banner of Firoz Nadiadwala. Speaking about the film on his blog Bachchan says, “Finally, I have accepted Raj Kumar Santoshi’s new project called The Outsider to be produced under the banner of Firoz Nadiadwala. After shaking hands he excitedly connected me to Gaffar Bhai his illustrious Father, a great name in film production and with whom I was coming together after a huge gap. I think we did something in 1973, perhaps Adalat and then nothing. He was nostalgic and happy as was I.”

The Outsider will mark the reunion of Amitabh Bachchan with Raj Kumar Santoshi after their last film Family-Ties of Blood which bombed at the box office.

Arjun Rampal to play villain opposite SRK in Ra.1

By now its common knowledge that Shah Rukh Khan and Arjun Rampal are close friends. The duo have starred together in super-hit films like Don and Om Shanti Om. Shah Rukh even made a fleeting appearance in Arjun’s home production I See You that released a few years ago. Now SRK and Arjun Rampal will once again be seen together in Shah Rukh’s home production Ra.1 to be directed by Anubhav Sinha.

While Shah Rukh plays a super-hero kind of a character in the film, the buzz is that Arjun will be playing his nemesis. The sci-fy film which is expected to go on floors very soon features Kareena Kapoor as the female lead.

“I’m planning to direct Akad in 2011″ - Arshad Warsi

From acting to producer to a director. If there is one name which hits your mind instantly after thinking of these three ingredients of filmmaking, you’ve got to get Aamir Khan in first. But the new name to enter the domain of three in one is Arshad Warsi. The actor turned producer reveals, “There is a friend of mine who is a journalist. He had a concept, an idea. So one day, we just started chatting about what he had thought. It was a nice little story. We wanted to make a very quirky action comedy. It’s a little bit on the Guy Ritchie side and the Tarantino side. That’s the fact and I have nothing to hide.”

Yes, Arshad had nothing to hide and why should he? On further questioning, he opens up a few more cards. Warsi says, “There is humour with seriousness. I wouldn’t say that it is going to be like a Kaminey. The film starts with the last scene of the film, then goes here and there, then it jumps up and down. As a director, it is the most difficult script to work on. I’ve got the picture in my head and so I have decided to direct it. If I give it to someone else, and if he doesn’t get the clear picture, chances are there the film can go very wrong. It’s tough film to direct.”

For a new entrant, we’re sure any film is a tough one to direct but knowing Arshad’s prowess in acting, we’re sure he’ll do a decent job behind the camera too. So before he ends his talk on his decided direction, we quiz him one last time on the title of his film. He smiles and says, “I don’t know why I’m telling you all this but I guess that’s how I am. At the moment, we’ve tentatively titled the film Akad. I’m planning to direct Akad in 2011.”

Akon is coming to Mumbai on Monday

Akon is coming to Mumbai on Monday to record a song for composers Vishal- Shekhar in Anubhav Sinha’s Ra.1.
The controversial singer’s arrival is being kept under wraps. He’s expected to be whisked away from the airport straight for the recording.
Akon will be recording on March 9 and 10 before he quietly slips out of India.
But hang on. He’s expected to return to India in April for live concerts with Aadesh Shrivastav.
Confirming Akon’s recording in Mumbai, Ra.1 director Anubhav Sinha says, “Akon will be here for the recording on the dates you’ve mentioned.”
However, Anubhav very strongly contradicts conflicting reports in the press stating that Akon would also be acting in Ra.1.
Says Anubhav, “Akon is only singing for our film. He is not acting in Ra.1.”
While Shah Rukh will lip-sync Akon’s lines, the song in Hindi and English will also feature a female voice, since Kareena Kapoor will be dancing with SRK in the song. The female voice has not been decided as yet. But Kareena Kapoor giving playback for herself is not ruled out.
Music composer Aadesh Shrivastav who’s in constant touch with the American super-rapper has been informed of Akon’s very hush-hush arrival to an undisclosed part of the country for a two-day visit.
Says Aadesh, “Akon is coming to India this month. He’ll be here a couple of days. Akon then returns to India in April, this time for concerts with me. We’re at the moment working out the details and venues.”
Last month Aadesh recorded a raga-rap number with Akon in the US. Now in the light of all the brouhaha over Akon’s Ra.1 recording, Aadesh will release a music video featuring himself and Akon.
“It’s basically footage that Akon and I shot while recording our song,” says Aadesh.
Get ready for an Akon blitzkrieg in Mumbai this month onwards.

Preity Zinta in the middle of Amrohi family’s property issue

This is something that usually happens only in a Bollywood film. But, this time round, it’s happening in real life and how. Ironically, the people involved in this are the B-town residents. We are talking about the family of legendary late Kamaal Amrohi, which is in news due to their property dispute that’s worth over a staggering Rs. 600 crore!

Shandar, one of Kamaal Amrohi’s three children, has now filed a case against his sister Rukhsar and brother Wasim stating that they have falsely pledged his shares in ‘Mahal Pictures Pvt Ltd’ (that owns the famous Kamaal Amrohi studio), to a company in Pune. As he was struggling his way through the cops to file a complaint, entered Preity Zinta, his ‘adopted’ daughter (who, of late has been tweeting about how difficult it is to file an FIR these days), who offered to shoulder his cause ahead. For starters, Shandar always took Preity Zinta as his daughter ever since he saw her films. No wonder then, he had announced that he would pass on all his property to Preity. Shandar, on his part, opined that he is battling not for money but for justice and that Preity is helping him fight it, despite strong opposition from the other family members.

Even as we publish this news, we just got the update that the High Court has adjourned further hearing on Shandar’s plea till March 11. Watch this space for further updates.

Salman Khan and Prachi Desai endorse Active Wheel

This is one of the most unexpected pairing. But still, as they say ‘Anything is possible in Bollywood’. We are talking about the never before pairing of the macho Salman Khan alongwith the still ‘Rocking On’ Prachi Desai, who have come together in a TV commercial for Active Wheel.

The TVC has Salman cornering Prachi Desai, while she ignores him since she has to wash clothes. Then, Salman, in his typical style, tells her to wave goodbye to the old washing powder and say Hello to ‘Active Wheel’. The ad has a romantic theme to it, almost like a Bollywood romantic song. What’s more interesting and intriguing is the fact that Salman has also given voiceover for the ad.

Salman and Prachi surely make a beautiful pair on screen.

The Wheel in Salman’s Life

Salman Khan has become the brand ambassador of the detergent brand,
Wheel. In fact, he holds great regard for the brand, and is not in any
way deterred by the fact that the detergent should ideally have a female
ambassador.

Rahul Mahajan’s reasons for not marrying on television

The nation seems to be divided on the most irrelevant issue of our
times - Will Rahul Mahajan marry the girl he has chosen, given the
recent demise of his uncle, Pravin Mahajan? If one is a traditionalist,
then one can argue that a bereaved family has no business preparing for a
wedding. Not for a year, ideally, but exceptions can be made to
accommodate previous commitments 12 days after the unfortunate event. If
one is a little less rigid, then one can take the more convenient
approach that justifies Rahul’s stand - Why should Rahul mourn for the
man who killed his father? Blood is not always thicker than water.

Katrina, Priyanka, Deepika, Vidya, Anushka to do cameos in JKSAH

After getting Akshay Kumar, Karan Johar, Farah Khan, Sajid Khan, Amrita Rao and Boman Irani to make guest appearances in his film-about-films Jaane Kahan Se Aayi Hai writer-director Milap Zaveri feels the star line-up is just not strong enough.

With the help of producer Nikhil Advani, Milap has roped in some more A-listers at the last minute.

Glam queens Deeepika Padukone, Katrina Kaif, Priyanka Chopra, Anushka Sharma and Vidya Balan will make cameo appearances in Milap’s film and thereby add to the film’s commercial value.

The cameos with these five ladies are expected to be shot next week, just 3 weeks ahead of the film’s release creating a major last-minute pre-release situation.

Says Milap, “That’s true. I’m roping in the names you’ve mentioned. Shooting at the last minute would be no problem because all of the star appearances are in the first reel, so I just have to re-edit the initial reel. Also, I’ve kept slates in the pre-final print announcing the various star cameos which I’ve filled up as and when they’ve been available.”
Milap is candid enough to admit his film has no big star value. “The only star is Riteish Deshmukh. Jacqueline Fernandez and Ruslaan Mumtaz will become stars after the film is released. Until they do, I need to get audiences into theatres. That’s why we need to rope in more stars in cameos.”

Besides his own clout in the industry as a long-standing and very successful writer-director, Milap Zaveri’s producer Nikhil Advani is also using his good wishes to rope in the glam-queens to add a dash of allure to Jaane Kahan Se Aayi Hai.

Nikhil has apparently sent out messages to Deepika, Priyanka, Anushka, Vidya and Katrina who have all agreed.

While Anushka will shoot her portion on the sets of Nikhil Advani’s Patiala House, the other ladies will touch base next week and do the needful.

Says Milap, “Vidya would be slightly difficult since she’s shooting in Delhi. But we’ll manage.” Milap is expected to fly down to Delhi to get Vidya’s cameo in place.

Making a film about the film industry is not easy. The director is expected to rope in all the stars that can be crammed in the film. Luckily, for Milap Zaveri, he has a producer who can get his friends to do the needful.

Says Milap, “The stars making special appearances have been absolutely wonderful. Akshay Kumar insisted on seeing a part of the film before doing his cameo. Akshay speaks about Ruslaan Mumtaz’s character in the camera. And do you know, Karan Johar actually agreed to be snubbed by Ruslaan Mumtaz! Ruslaan plays a superstar and in the film he refuses to take Karan’s calls.”

Farah Khan has a full-fledged role as a film director. But the biggest sport so far seems to be Boman Irani who shot for just the trailer of Jaane Kahan Se Aayi Hai.

Says Milap emotionally, “That’s true. Boman is not in the film, only in the trailer. Everyone who has made an appearance in my film has been wonderful. I guess it comes from being around for so long.”

Farah Khan’s Tees Maar Khan set to release on December 24, 2010

This Christmas, audiences are in for a big treat with Farah Khan’s Tees Maar Khan which is set to release on the Christmas Eve, December 24.

Says Farah, “I’m really happy that we will be releasing Tees Maar Khan on the 24th December, 2010. TMK is a very kid friendly, holiday season kind of film, full of fun, big dance numbers and action comedy. It’s just the kind of film you’d want to watch in the holidays.”

Still in its filming stages, Tees Maar Khan is already in the news for its leading jodi Akshay Kumar & Katrina Kaif and director Farah Khan’s track record for delivering two super-hit films.

Says Akshay Kumar, “Tees Maar Khan will be our gift to audiences this holiday season. It’s a great film with a great script and with Farah you know you’re in for a treat with larger than life scenes, great music and hilarious dialogues. The movie will have you laughing uncontrollably.”

Tees Maar Khan is produced by Shree Ashtavinayak Cinevision Ltd. and Shirish & Farah’s home production ‘Three’s Company Pvt Ltd.’ and co-produced by Akshay Kumar’s ‘Hari Om Productions’.

Hema’s Bungalow Thief Nabbed

The high-drama that began at Hema Malini’s Goregaon bungalow on
Saturday night seemed to be finally ending on a positive note for the
harassed actress when the kingpin behind the huge theft of
approximately Rs. 80 lakhs turned out to be a member of her staff. Most
of the stolen good were gold ornaments. By Tuesday morning the cops were
expected retrieve the entire loot from the nabbed culprit.

End of Anandi?

One of the major high points in the life of the serial, Balika Vadhu,
was the death of Pratap (Jehangir Vakil). That incident brought in TRPs
of almost 9. Now the audience is hooked again to the serial they so
loved once upon a time, and largely ignored for the better part of this
year. The reason is the sudden onslaught of promos on the channel,
Colors, that airs the show. These promos lead to a series of questions
in the minds of the now faithful audience – Will Anandi die in the show?
What will happen to the story if the protagonist dies?

Shekhar and Adhyayan Suman in remake of Hollywood film Awake

It’s a dream of every father to finally see his son stand shoulder to shoulder on the same platform, and we are sure that right now Shekhar Suman is feeling the same way with his home production starring him and son Adhyayan.

The film in question is a remake of the 2007 Hollywood film Awake, with the story based on the lines of a romantic thriller. Speaking to Bollywood Hungama exclusively, Adhyayan says, “Yes we are doing a home production, but right now it is too early to talk about it. Rohit Jagraj will be directing the film with dad and me in it; however the lead actress hasn’t yet been decided, since we are kind of looking for someone new and fresh. So I guess once we finish scripting, dad and Rohit will look into the casting.”

Revealing the time when the film would hit the floors Adhyayan says, “We are looking at completing the scripting stage and hitting the floors by this July, as we would love to have it release later this year.”

“In the film the two of us are not playing father and son, in fact we are friends. While dad is a surgeon; I play his friend who eventually becomes his patient too”, signs off Adhyayan.

Cancellation of Akki-Ash’s romantic song shoot further delays Action Replayy

Vipul Shah’s schedules for Action Replayy seem to be going awry for no fault of anybody’s. First it was his principal actors’ choc-a-block schedules that delayed the film. Now when the film had just two more songs to be filmed, Vipul is again left high and dry. And it’s not his to question why. Because this time it’s the weather gods who are to blame.

The song was to be shot in Manali. “And who would have thought there would be snow in Manali in February? It has never happened before!” marvels Vipul. “We had planned the whole song schedule for a time when we were sure there would be no inclement weather. When we got to know there was heavy snowfall we were stunned. There was no way we could shoot,” says Vipul who now needs to find alternative dates for the Manali song.

Easier said than done, considering how busy Aishwarya and Akshay are. Rather than delay the release of the film further Vipul may drop the song completely. “We shot one 1970s-style romantic number a solo with Shreya Ghoshal. Now we wanted to shoot a song about a couple romancing in winter like Rajesh Khanna and Mumtaz in the song ‘Karvaten Badalte Rahen’ in Aap Ki Kasam in Manali.”

Pritam Chakraborty’s brief was to create a raga-based melody, a la the 1970s. Some portions of the track were even recorded with a live orchestra as the composers of the 1970s used to do.

But will this labour of melodious love ever get shot now?

Sharman Joshi and Adah Sharma to endorse Nokia’s X range

Just yesterday, we had reported about Sharman Joshi being signed up as the Brand Ambassador of Airtel. Today, the man is richer (literally) by yet another endorsement in his kitty. This time round, it’s the telecom major Nokia, who have signed up Sharman and Adah Sharma as their latest brand ambassadors for their latest X series range, for a period of one year.

Sources close to Bollywood Hungama say, “Post the success of 3 Idiots; Sharman is definitely in a roll. Sharman bought time from Nokia officials before finally saying yes to the deal. Sharman and Adah have even shot for an ad for the same at Filmistan. The ad has Sharman and Adah as a young couple who are out to shop dresses for Adah. For every dress that Adah tries, Sharman plays a new song on the cell, as a sign of approval, which irritates Adah. And towards the end, while Adah walks out in anger, Sharman again plays a track to pacify her.”

The source also adds that the ads will be out really soon while the said range of phones is expected to hit the market in a month’s time from now. The overall concept of the ad is that, “There is a song on your X-Phone for every occasion.”

Repeated attempts to establish contacts with both Sharman as well as Adah proved futile.

Dev Benegal organises special screening of Road Movie for NGO kids

Abhay Deol can not help but go gaga over the child artiste in his upcoming film Road Movie. He literally called him “the find of the film”.

Now Mohammed Faisal isn’t some boy with over ambitious parents who got him admitted in some acting class. Instead, he belongs to Salaam Balak Trust, which is a theatre group. Faisal’s search holds an interesting story behind it. Dev Benegal, the director of the Road Movie wanted a child with innocent looks and a pert persona. Having been through countless auditions, he still couldn’t find the right fit, which is when Dev’s friend suggested he meet the boys from Salaam Balak theatre group. Two days before the shoot, Dev found Faisal, whose acting skills took him by surprise. So impressed is Dev with Faisal that he has kept a special screening of the film for the kids of Salaam Balak at PVR Select City Walk in Delhi on 4th March at 8:30am. Besides Dev Benegal, Abhay Deol is also going to be present for the screening. This would be a proud moment for the theatre group for sure.

Sharman Joshi endorses Airtel

He is the man who is ranked amongst one of the most talented actors in Bollywood today. He is none other than Sharman Joshi, the dude with supercool attitude, and who actually made everyone sit up and take notice of his deadly performance in the smash hit 3 Idiots.

After having displayed his talent in films and theatre, the man is now all set to step into an arena that he had been evading for sometime now: brand endorsement. Sharman has finally taken the plunge with his first ever endorsement for Airtel. Sources close to Bollywood say that the telecom major signed on the actor, on the immense popularity that Sharman got after the stupendous success of 3 Idiots. They also add that the actor has been paid a whopping amount for the endorsement. The TVC has Sharman and his pal sitting in a library, while Sharman is busy trying to woo his girl Nisha by typing out love poems and quotes, which he copies from a book. Impressed by the love quotes, the girl immediately replies back stating that she is interested. It’s a simple yet engaging commercial.

Repeated attempts to contact Sharman Joshi proved unsuccessful.

Ajay Devgan and Bipasha Basu team up for Priyan’s folk Ram Leela

Priyadarshan has roped in Ajay Devgan and Bipasha Basu in his next
venture titled ‘Ram Leela’. The director who has made his mark both down
south and in b-town has decided to use folk-music for this film.
