When it comes to our skin, a lot of us dream of finding a miracle in a bottle. And in this day and age, when advertising for beauty and health care products surrounds us, many of us are led to believe that such a thing might actually exist. The truth is, however, it is counterproductive to be so obsessed with our appearance. Everyone gets wrinkles over time. This is not a bad thing – wrinkles add more character and depth to one’s face. Other changes to your skin can be expected to occur over time, as well. Freckles and scars are just part of getting older. Why make it in to a major catastrophe?
While there are certain products available on the market that can help offset the effects of aging, the fact is that aging is something that all of us are going to experience eventually. It is much better to accept this rather than live in a state of denial and confusion.
The problem with a lot of product lines is that they have gotten incredibly complicated over the years – with the result being that they are quite costly now and very time consuming. But you do not have to spend a lot of money in order to have great skin. One of the major problems with skin products is overindulgence – when we are dry, we over moisturize; when we are oily, we overstrip.
So do not let yourself go crazy and spend $100 on a jar of moisturizer. Instead, try to follow these tips and you will not need to spend loads of time and money on pseudo science.
1. Avoid the sun. If you have to indulge, then be sure to use sunscreen. You should also avoid direct sunlight between the hours of 10 and 2.
2. Quit smoking. Your skin needs as much circulation as possible. Smoking impairs the skin’s circulation, resulting in a dull, gray color. Instead of having healthy blood delivered to your skin surface, you are getting oxidants and poisons delivered instead as a result of smoking.
3. Get plenty of rest and eat a well balanced diet.
4. Try to avoid stress – both on an environmental and an emotional level.
5. Be sure to wash your face twice a day and use proper treatment products. This is essential, especially in the morning, because a lot of nasty stuff collection on your face when you are sleeping at night.
6. Do not neglect vital areas of the skin. Believe it or not, your neck, heels, décolletage, and elbows all need moisturizing. The tops of your feet and your scalp need to be protected from the sun.
7. Wash your hands more often, do not touch your face so much.
8. Keep your make up fresh and clean. You should regularly replace the sponges in your compact. Every once in a while, you should toss everything out and start again. Cosmetics only have a shelf life of six to twelve months. This is why you should avoid buying really expensive make up that you will only have to throw out eventually.
