Randy Orton was born in Knoxville, Tennessee. He was the oldest of two siblings. His father was wrestler “Cowboy” Bob Orton. Knowing how hard a life as a professional wrestler was from personal experience, his father attempted to warn his son to stay away from a life in the ring, as it meant constantly being on the road and not getting to spend a lot of time with your family. So at first, Orton followed his father’s advice. Upon graduation from Hazelwood Central High School, he joined the United States Marine Corps. After going AWOL on two separate occasions and disobeying a commonding officer’s orders, Orton was dishonorably discharged from the Marines. As a result, Randy Orton was put in to military prison for thirty eight days.

In the year 2000, Randy Orton made his pro wrestling debut in St. Louis, Missouri with the MMWA SICW. That organization was an off shoot of the St. Louis Wrestling Club, which had been headed by Sam Muchnick between the years of 1950 and 1983.

In St. Louis, Randy Orton received training by such luminaries as Ron Powers, Phil E. Blunt, Gary Jackson, Jeremy Lightfoot, Mark Bland, Tony Costa, and his father, Cowboy Bob Orton. Orton also served as a referee during this period for World Organized Wrestling, where his wrestler uncle Barry O was employed.

While on the RAW show, Orton was accused of harassing WWE employees Rochelle Loewen and Amy Weber. As a result, Loewen was transferred to SmackDown, while Weber eventually left the company. Loewen called Orton an animal. She claimed that he subjected her to harassment repeatedly and vandalized her possessions. Several of Loewen’s accusations were refuted, however, by Mark Jindrak in a Voice of Wrestling interview.

In the year 2007, Randy Orton found himself in trouble once again when Sports Illustrated posted an article online on the subject of steroid use in wrestling. Orton and several other WWE wrestlers were accused of having obtained such steroids as testosterone, stanozolol, oxandrolone, and nandrolone. Since that report was released, WWE has stated that the allegations in the article came before WWE launched their 2006 Talent Wellness program.
