Shawn Michaels Biiography
Born Michael Shawn Hickenbottom on the 22nd of July 1965, Shawn Michaels is a renowned pro wrestler in the United States of America. Currently, Michaels performs as part of World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE)’s RAW brand, although he is now taking time off due to a knee injury. On television, his absence has been explained as being the result of a serious concussion that Randy Orton inflicted on him in a match.
Shawn Michaels has the distinction of being one of the longest tenured performers on the WWE, having joined the company in the year 1987. He is known for being among the only wrestlers who appeared on the first episode of RAW is WAR who are still working for WWE to this day. (The only other wrestler to share this distinction is The Undertaker.) Shawn Michaels also took time off between the years of 1998 and 2002, however, due to a serious back injury.
Shawn Michaels launched his career in the year 1984 with Mid South Wrestling. After that, he moved on to Texas All Star Wrestling. In the year 1986, Shawn Michaels would make his national debut with the American Wrestling Association. Then, in the year 1987, Michaels was signed to the World Wrestling Federation. At that time, however, he was still under contract with the American Wrestling Association. Michaels then returned to AWA, but went back to the World Wrestling Federation in the year 1988.
Shawn Michaels won the World Championship four times in the course of his illustrious career. Three of those times were as WWF Champion, and one time was as the World Heavyweight Champion. Michaels also has the distinction of winning the Royal Rumbles in both 1995 and 1996.
Shawn Michaels was born in Chandler, Arizona – the youngest of four children. He grew up in a military family, growing up mainly in San Antonio, Texas, but also living for a time in Reading, Berkshire, England. Shawn Michaels decided to become a pro wrestler at the tender age of twelve. By that time, he was already an accomplished athlete. He had started playing football at the age of six, and eventually became an outstanding linebacker. While attending Randolph High School, Shawn Michaels would eventually become the captain of the school’s football team. Upon graduation, Shawn Michaels entered Southwest Texas State University in San Marcos, Texas. He shortly after dropped out in order to pursue his dream of becoming a professional wrestler.
Shawn Michaels underwent training from Jose Lothario, the Mexican pro wrestler. In the year 1984, he made his debut with the Mid South Wrestling and Texas All Star Wrestling promotions. In the latter, Chavo Guerrero, Sr. would award Shawn Michaels and Paul Diamond the TAW Tag Team Championship.
Shawn Michaels also made a mark while wrestling with Central States Championship Wrestling. He and his partner Marty Jannetty would defeat the Batten Twins and take on the Central States Tag Team Championship. They would later lose the title back to the Batten Twins, however.
