Edge
Edge Biography
Born Adam Joseph Copeland on the 30th of October 1973 in Orangeville, Ontario, Canada, Edge is a professional wrestler currently signed to the SmackDown brand of World Wrestling Entertainment. Due to a legitimate pectoral tear, Edge is currently inactive.
Copeland first began to rise in the world of wrestling as half of the tag team Edge and Christian alongside his real life best friend Christian. Edge is known for being one of the most decorated tag team wrestlers in the history of the sport, having won a record twelve tag team titles in the World Wrestling Entertainment.
Edge spent his early career wrestling for a number of independent promotions throughout Canada and the United States of America under the moniker Sexton Hardcastle. Eventually, he would become one half of the successful team known as Sex and Violence, alongside Joe Legend. In the year 1997, Sex and Violence became part of a bigger stable, Thug Life. This stable consisted of Legend, Hardcastle, Christian Cage, Bloody Bill Skullion, and Rhino Richards. In his early career, Edge won the SSW Tag Title as well as the ICW Street Fight Tag Title two times alongside Cage. He also won the ICW MWCW Midwest Unified Tag Title alongside Joe.
Together, Copeland and Reso were known as Hard Impact. Eventually, the two decided to change their name to the Suicide Blondes. In Japan in the mid-90s, the two worked together under the name the Canada Rockers. Copeland has also wrestled under the name Damon Striker on WCW Pro in matches against Kevin Sullivan and Meng. Copeland later claimed that he only wrestled for WCW on one occasion and that it was his worst gimmick ever.
In the year 1998, Copeland was signed to the World Wrestling Federation. He would make his television wrestling debut in an episode of RAW is WAR as Edge, a loner who enters the arena through the crowd during his tournaments. Initially, Edge’s persona had it that he would walk around city streets aimlessly in order to beat up innocent passersby.
Edge’s first televised match was against Jose Estrada, Jr. It ended early, by count out, when Edge legitimately injured Estrada’s neck.
In Edge’s first pay per view match, the SummerSlam of 1998, he served as the tag team partner of Sable against Marc Mero and Jacqueline. He won the match by body slamming Sable on to Merio in a pinning position.
Copeland has also been a figure of some controversy in recent months for allegedly using steroids. In March of 2007, Sports Illustrated posted an online article about the use of steroids and HGH in sports. The article named several professional wrestlers, including Copeland, who allegedly obtained HGH. Copeland admitted using steroids in the past, but claimed that they slowed him down, so he got off of them immediately. The HGH, he claims, was used after he returned from having neck surgery as a means of aiding his recovery. He claims that the doctors told him it would help the bones grow back around the screws and plate that had been inserted in to his neck.
