The Great Khali Biography
Born Dalip Singh Rana on the 27th of August 1972, the Great Khali is a professional wrestler and actor from India. Currently, the Great Khali is signed to World Wrestling Entertainment. He wrestles for their SmackDown brand. There, he is the reigning World Heavyweight Champion. Before the Great Khali embarked upon a sports career, he worked as a police officer for the Punjab state police.
He began his wrestling career under the name Giant Singh for All Pro Wrestling in the United States. In the month of October 1996, he made his first American wrestling appearance, teaming up with Tony Jones against the West Side Playaz.
In August of 2001, Masahir Chono, the Team 2000 leader, brought him in to New Japan Pro Wrestling. The other big man who joined that month was Giant Silva. Together, they formed the tallest tag team in the history of professional wrestling. They had a combined weight of eight hundred five pounds and an average height of seven feet two inches.
The two made their tag team debut in October at the Tokyo Dome, which was labeled Club 7 by Chono. Together, they managed to defeat Yutaka Yoshie, Wataru Inoue, Kenzo Suzuki, and Hiroshi Tanahashi in a Handicap Match when Silva pinned both Inoue and Tanahashi at once.
In January of 2002, Singh experienced his first loss in a tag team match at the Tokyo Dome when Hiroyoshi Tenzan cradled him. Another massive defeat occurred in March of that year, when he was pinned by Manabu Nakanishi and fell to a German suplex hold. In August of that year, he suffered his most critical loss to date at a Tokyo Nippon Budokan match when, after a falling out, Silva pinned him in a singles match.
It was not until four years later that he would be signed to the World Wrestling Entertainment Company. Upon his signing, he was sent to the Deep South Wrestling developmental territory in order to be trained. He made his WWE television debut alongside Daviari in April of that year on SmackDown. He took down the Undertaker and left him out cold in his match with Mark Henry. The result of all this was a No Contest.
The following week, Singh was introduced as the Great Khali. It was now explained by Daviari that he had a client who would be able to destroy the Undertaker; Mark Henry and Muhammed Hassan had both failed to do so before. Khali would then make his in ring debut on the April 21st edition of SmackDown. He defeated Funaki on that episode.
In a May edition of SmackDown, Khali was pitted against Rey Mysterio, the world champion. Khali was nearly two feet and two hundred fifty pounds heavier than Mysterio, and thus gained an easy victory in that match. He would go on to defeat the Undertaker on Judgment Day 2006 with a kick to the head. The Great Khali then went on a long rampage and won several matches.
